In April 2017 Tiger Woods was the 780th ranked golfer in the World, 2 years later, he was number 6 after performing one of the greatest sporting comebacks of the 21st century.
Tiger has historically endured a fractured relationship with the media. He was guilty of communicating in a closed and abrupt manner when questioned about injury, loss of form or frailty of technique.
In April 2017, arguably at as his lowest ebb, Tiger underwent spinal fusion surgery at what he described as the moment he thought he may never play again. Over the next 6 months he underwent extensive rehab, 17 months later he recorded his first win on tour in 5 years.
By his own admission the severity of his physical situation had led to a stronger degree of self-awareness that has led to a new relationship with his fans, the media and his peers. The kind of relationship that had thousands chanting his name on the 72nd hole of his 2019 Masters Victory. He now talks freely about his main role in life as ’being the best Dad’ he can and being pragmatic about how he must manage his body and practice.
This heightened degree of awareness has enabled him to wade through the 'brain fog’ and some may say finally communicate in a candid, open and honest way. An assessment of his natural vs adaptive behaviours would have been extremely enlightening. When we remove the mask, we alleviate stress and we remove any unnecessary mental or physical fatigue.
Tiger is now blissfully honest about his physical capabilities; in turn no cloud of uncertainty dampens his ability to perform.
Tiger is Self-Aware, his body will not allow him to dominate but his mind will always enable him to compete.
